Over the last 25 years of my Christian life, I have endeavored, with varying degrees of success, to memorize Biblical passages that have spoken directly to me in my walk with God. I meditate on them often and the Holy Spirit speaks to me through them from time to time. The first three passages I consider my "life verses", passages that seem to speak directly to me about living life the way God would have me to.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on
your own understanding. In all your ways
acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight.
Proverbs 3:5-6
I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in me and I in him, he bears
much fruit; for apart from Me you can do nothing.
John 15:5
Colossians 1:9-10
Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed
you were called in one body; and be thankful. Let the word of Christ richly
dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with
psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts
to God. Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus,
giving thanks through Him to God the Father.
Colossians 3:16-17
I will bless the Lord at all times. His praise shall continually be in my mouth.
My soul shall make its boast in the Lord.
The humble shall hear it and rejoice.
O magnify the Lord with me and let us exalt his name together.
Psalm 34:1-3
Whom have I in heaven but thee and besides thee I desire nothing
on earth. My flesh and my heart they may
fail, but you are the strength of my heart and my portion forever.
Psalm 73:25-26
But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness and all
these things shall be added to you.
Therefore do not be anxious for tomorrow for tomorrow will care for
itself. Each day has enough trouble of
its own.
Matthew 6:33-34
For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten
Son that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
John 3:16
I urge you therefore brethren by the mercies of God that you
present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice acceptable to God which is your
spiritual service of worship. And be not
conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind that
you may prove what the will of God is; that which is good and acceptable and
perfect.
Romans 12:1-2
I have been crucified with Christ and it is no longer I who live
but Christ lives in me and the life that I now live in the flesh, I live by
faith in the Son of God who loved me and delivered himself up for me.
Galatians 2:20
Be anxious for nothing but in everything by prayer and
supplication with thanksgiving make your requests known to God and the peace of
God which surpasses all comprehension will guard your hearts and your minds in
Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:6-7
For I know that nothing good dwells in me that is in my
flesh for the wishing is present in me but the doing of the good is not. For the good that I wish I do not do but I
practice the very evil that I do not wish.
Romans 7:18-19
And he has said to me “My Grace is sufficient for you for my
power is perfected in weakness” Most gladly therefore I will rather boast about
my weaknesses that the power of Christ may dwell within me. Therefore I am well content with weaknesses,
with insults, with distresses, with persecutions, with difficulties for Christ
sake for when I am weak, then I am strong.
2 Corinthians 12:9-10
…Work out your salvation with fear and trembling for it is
God who is at work in you both to will and to work for His good pleasure.
Philippians 2:12-13
Consider it all joy my brethren when you encounter various
trials knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance; and let
endurance have its perfect result that you may be perfect and complete lacking
in nothing.
James 1-2-4
Submit therefore to God.
Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to
you. Cleanse your hands you sinners and
purify your hearts you double-minded.
James 4:7-8
Therefore confess your sins to one another and pray for one
another that you may be healed. The
effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much.
James 5:16
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his
might. Put on the full armor of God so that you may be able to stand firm
against the schemes of the devil. For
our struggle is not against flesh and blood but against the rulers, against the
powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces
of wickedness in the heavenly places.
Therefore take up the full armor of God that you may be able to resist
in the evil day and having done everything, to stand firm. Stand firm then, having girded your loins
with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod
your feet with the preparation of the Gospel of Peace. In addition to all, taking up the shield of
faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the fiery missiles of the
evil one, and take the helmet of salvation and the Sword of the Spirit, which
is the word of God.
Ephesians 6:10-17
For though we walk in the flesh we do not war according to
the flesh; for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but divinely
powerful for the destruction of fortresses.
We are destroying speculations and every lofty thing raised up against
the knowledge of God and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience
of Christ.
2 Corinthians 10:3-5
For " whoever would love life and see good days
must keep his tongue from evil and his lips from deceitful speech. He must turn
from evil and do good; he must seek peace and pursue it. For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous
and his ears are attentive to their prayer, but the face of the Lord is against
those who do evil."
1 Peter 3:10-12
Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me and know my
anxious thoughts; And see if there be any hurtful way in me, And lead me in the
everlasting way.
Psalm 139:23-24
The mind of man plans his way, But the Lord directs his
steps.
Proverbs 16:9
If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but do not
have love, I have become a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift
of prophesy and know all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith
so as to remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing.
And if I give all my possessions to feed the poor, and if I
surrender my body to be burned, but do not have love, it profits me
nothing.
Love is patient, love is kind and is not jealous; love does
not brag and is not arrogant, does not act unbecomingly; it does not seek its
own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered, does not
rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; bears all things,
believes all things, hopes all thing, endures all things.
Love never fails; but if there are gifts of prophesy, they
will be done away; if there are tongues, they will cease; if there is
knowledge, it will be done away.
For we know in part and we prophesy in part; but when the
perfect comes, the partial will be done away.
When I was a child, I used to speak like a child, think like
a child, reason like a child; when I became a man, I did away with childish
things.
For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face; now
I know in part, but then I will know fully just as I have been fully known.
But now faith, hope, love, abide these three; but the
greatest of these is love.
1 Corinthians 13:1-13 (whole chapter)
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience,
kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things
there is no law. Now those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the
flesh with its passions and desires. If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit. Let us not become boastful, challenging one another, envying
one another.
Galatians 5:22-26
And He said to him, You shall love the Lord your God with
all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the great and foremost
commandment. The second is like it, you
shall love your neighbor as yourself. On
these two commandments depends the whole law and the Prophets.
Matthew 22:37-39
Do not fear for I am with you; Do not anxiously look about
you, for I am your God. I will
strengthen you, surely I will help you, Surely I will uphold you with My
righteous right hand
Isaiah 41:10
Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of
the ends of the earth does not become weary or tired. His understanding is inscrutable. He gives strength to the weary, and to him
who lacks might He increases power.
Though youths grow weary and tired, and vigorous young men stumble
badly, yet those who wait for the Lord will gain new strength; they will mount
up with wings like eagles, they will run and not get tired, they will walk and
become weary.
Isaiah 40:28-31
The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who
are crushed in spirit. Many are the
afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all.
Psalm 34:18-19
The night is almost gone, and the day is near. Therefore let us lay aside the deeds of
darkness and put on the armor of light.
Let us behave properly as in the day, not in carousing and drunkenness,
not in sexual promiscuity and sensuality, not in strife and jealousy. But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no
provision for the flesh in regard to its lusts.
Romans 13:14
